Ha ha. Before I start, just a quick dis­claimer. This will help you achieve a comic book/graphic novel effect using pho­tos and fil­ters, but a true graphic novel takes a lot more work than that. With that dis­claimer aside, if you have got the right set of pho­tographs, or even if you take your own pho­tographs specif­i­cally for this pur­pose, you could make a comic that is truly unique, orig­i­nal, and eye pleas­ing.

To start off, let is make a new doc­u­ment:

I‚Äôve obvi­ously already got my pic­tures selected. You will want to orga­nize them on your doc­u­ment in a way that makes sense for a comic book:

To help with the comic book style, each of these images should be pasted and then cut to size. Next, a 1px black stroke should be applied indi­vid­u­ally to the lay­ers:

Using the Cus­tom Shape tool, choose a dia­log box that suits your nar­ra­tive and use a white fill with a 1px black stroke:

Now flat­ten the image, and choose Fil­ter > Tex­ture > Grain and use these set­tings:

Your out­put should be sim­i­lar to this:

Now do Fil­ter > Artis­tic > Film Grain with these set­tings:

Now sim­ply add your text to the cap­tions and you are done:
